| Angie Mertz Board of Directors/Fundraising Committee Jr/Sr High: Cultural Anthropology / Music History Speech & Public Speaking / STL Literature Mrs. Mertz brings history to life in her classroom—sometimes quite literally, with tea tastings from the Boston Tea Party or cupcakes to celebrate student birthdays. Her teaching style blends traditional lecture with interactive activities like escape rooms, gallery walks, and role-playing games. Students can expect thoughtful discussion, engaging projects, and a steady supply of tea served in real china cups. She holds a Bachelor of Science in History from Washington University in St. Louis and an Associate of Arts in Graphic Design from Mineral Area College. Before teaching, she worked in the newspaper and magazine industry as a graphic artist. Now in her third year at Berea, she continues to create memorable classes that are both rigorous and imaginative. Mrs. Mertz and her husband, Kyle, both serve on Berea’s Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee. She also homeschools their youngest daughter, Ella, who attends Berea. Outside the classroom, she enjoys knitting, hiking, reading historical fiction, baking sourdough bread, and blending her own teas. She loves being part of a school where creativity, challenge, and community come together. |
