Guillermo Sarmiento

Guillermo Sarmiento
LU/CC Spanish

Mr. Guillermo brings a love of language, learning, and connection to the Berea Academy community as a Spanish teacher. A native of Bogotá, Colombia, and a U.S. citizen, Guillermo was trained as an engineer and holds an MBA, with a career in software development. Throughout his career, however, he has always enjoyed teaching. He has taught Spanish to colleagues through corporate diversity and inclusion programs and has also tutored St. Louis students in math. Currently taking a career sabbatical, Guillermo is excited to join the Berea teaching staff.

Outside the classroom, Guillermo enjoys spending time with his 15-year-old son, a rising sophomore. These days, he especially enjoys teaching his son how to drive, as well as playing tennis and pickleball together. Guillermo is also an avid Latin dancer and is currently learning Cuban-style “Rueda,” a lively form of salsa danced in a circle with other dance enthusiasts.
When describing his Spanish class, Guillermo says, “Most importantly, we’re going to have fun learning together. ¡Lo más importante es que vamos a disfrutar aprendiendo juntos!”
