Amber Sobery is a Deaf Educator with a degree from Fontbonne University and is a Missouri Certified Sign Language Interpreter. Amber’s primary professional job is in Early Intervention with families with the Missouri First Steps Program and Families First through the Missouri School for the Deaf.
Amber began teaching at Berea Academy in 2019/2020 when God called her to teach ASL as a foreign language for homeschool students. Educating students in ASL has become Amber’s secondary primary job; God has grown Amber’s reach in other St. Louis counties, making it clear that this opportunity is an important part of the St. Louis homeschool fabric. Amber’s students are going into the world uniquely gifted to be part of the Kingdom – from handling orders at a restaurant to engaging in Deaf Studies at the college level, Amber has equipped and encouraged her students to engage the Deaf Community.
Amber and her husband, Doug have been blessed with their daughter Lillian. To round out their family, they also have Kirby and Tango, their beloved Papillon dogs. Amber jokes with an ornery grin, “I’m such a butterfly fanatic that I have butterfly dogs.” Amber is active in her church of 20+ years and enjoys working with the children’s ministry and interpreting. She also enjoys reading books, gardening and walking distances. Recently, Amber has begun to interpret Christian music, making another way for the hearing impaired to enjoy the Christian community.
