Kyra Harriss

Elementary, Junior High, and High School

Kyra Harriss is an experienced educator focused on Elementary Education. Kyra has been enjoying the upper Northeast for the last few years. Her work has included teaching first grade, as well as teaching English and writing. Kyra loves literature and history in particular and is excited to bring her classroom experience and passion to Berea Academy.

Kyra  has been called to teach in South Korea and on the way, Kyra is “pausing” here in St. Louis. She is expected to provide instruction for the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic  year. Her transition to South Korea is currently scheduled for February, 2025. There is a possibility that Kyra’s departure date will be postponed and she will continue instruction in the second semester. It is unusual for Berea to contract with an instructor for less than the full academic year. However, after much prayer and discussion, Berea understands that Kyra is part of our provision for 2024/2025. Second semester instructors will be announced as they are contracted with Berea.

Kyra’s classroom experience and degree in education provide unique insight and opportunity. Several of our junior high students have requested to join Kyra as classroom assistants. Kyra can effectively coach these eager students, creating effective and creative assistants. Kyra can also create a plan for instructor transition that is focused on building the best experience for her students. Additionally, Kyra has the skills and experience needed to lead differentiated instruction, ensuring that every student is challenged appropriately based on their skill levels.

Kyra has a long connection with community members at Berea Academy. Before Berea’s founding, Kyra studied literature, writing, and grammar with Judy Musick. Since 2019, Kyra’s siblings have taken a variety of classes with Berea. Many of our students know Kyra’s mother, Ms. Marti, who volunteers at lunch/recess each week. Though Kyra is new to many Berea families, her roots are woven within our community.
