Taxonomy of Living Things Journal is an eight week study course introducing students to the systemic way to sort, identify, name, and classify the things on Earth that are alive. Reading the support books lead students through the classification process.

The textbooks for this course have been chosen intentionally to give students plenty of class time to explore living things. Students will have regular Simulated Dissections throughout the year. A simulated dissection is a dissection project that does not involve a preserved specimen. Dissections may include a cut flower, vegetables, paper models, or synthetic models. Animal dissection will be paper or synthetic based. In some cases, the student will assemble the model themselves from a variety of materials. Additionally, students will design a lab experience based on their personal interests and skills.

Dissection can be a difficult assignment for many students, regardless of age. “Science Taxonomy and Simulated Dissection” will provide valuable hands-on experience free of the challenges in a traditional dissection.

For the students who desire a traditional dissection, they may be paired with a 9th -10th grade Biology student to experience some dissection with a preserved specimen.

Syllabus available in August, 2023

Science Taxonomy and Simulated Dissection is part of the Core Concepts program.
