Admission Policy rev. 2/2024

Berea Academy desires transparency and integrity in all we do, including our admissions process. This information is provided to help prospective families understand how our admissions process works and why we use an application system for enrollment.

Berea Academy is managed on a day to day basis by the Executive Director and administrative staff.  Beth Mennemeyer serves as the Executive Director. Additionally, Berea Academy maintains a board of directors that is charged with overseeing the long term health and wellness of the academy, as well as accountability for the administrative directors.

Berea Academy’s application/admissions policy is:

  1. Evaluated annually by Administrative Directors and all changes are submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.
  2. Linked to the Berea Academy website for easy access by any  interested parties.

The admissions process works through a series of steps:

  1. An application will be submitted per student requesting admission. There is a one time fee of $20 per application that is billed upon receipt of the application after June 1, 2024. For applications submitted before May 31, 2024, the fee is billed on June 1, 2024.
  2. Once the Application form is received, a member of the Administration will acknowledge the receipt of the application.
    • For previously admitted students there will be no waiting process prior to registration unless there is a hold based on financial, academic, or behavioral concerns from the previous year.
    • For student applications containing two references from a current instructor, administrative staff, or board member referral and approval, the waiting period will be waived and registration may proceed according to schedule.
    • For student application without referral, the application will enter into the interview process (see detailed outline below) before acceptance and registration approval.
  3. Once an application is accepted, an email of acceptance will be sent to the applicant’s family. New students will be given enrollment access based on a tiered system.
  4. Admission and membership for future approval will be evaluated by instructors, administrative staff, and student success based on current or past year(s) and according to additional policies of academic and behavioral nature outside the scope of this policy. Students in good standing with Berea Academy do not need to submit a new application for class enrollment.
  5. Any family that submits an application who does not participate within a year of application submission will need to re-apply following this policy with no refund or waiver of application fee based on payment from previous application.

For those applicants who do not have two references from within Berea Academy staff, there is an interview process.

The purpose of this process is to help the applicant, applicant’s family, and Berea Academy administration understand the student’s need and Berea Academy’s ability to meet that need.

For any new applicant not referred by teaching, administrative, or board level member of Berea Academy the following protocol will be followed:

  1. Application of admission will be acknowledged with an email that explains Berea Academy policy and an invitation to set up a personal interview.
  2. Referral calls will be made to referrals listed on the application.
  3. Personal interview will be set up with applicant, applicant’s parent or both depending on applicant choice with a member of the Administration.
  4. Berea Administration will discuss the applicant’s needs and potential placement with Berea Academy.
  5. Effort will be made to accomplish these steps within 10 business days from initial application submission. Berea Academy holds no responsibility for delay in registration that could cause unavailability of desired courses upon registration. Every effort will be made to move through this process efficiently.

What might cause Berea Administration to deny an application?

  1. An applicant’s inability to agree with Berea Academy’s statement of teaching with Christ-Centered Focus. Applicants do not have to believe in a Christ-Centered Focus. However, applicants must understand Berea Academy’s  positions and teaching philosophy and willingly agree to participate.
  2. If an applicant is unable to agree to adhere to the policies of Berea Code of Conduct and Standards of Discipline.
  3. If an applicant is currently failing Academic Suspension and/or has a history of repeated GPA of 2.50 or below.
  4. Previous failure of any financial obligation to Berea Academy.
  5. Previous and/or ongoing conflict with any member of Berea Academy and student or parent/guardians that cannot be resolved.
  6. Inability of Berea Academy to meet the needs identified for the student.
  7. Conflict of interest academically, physically, spiritually or emotionally in regards to students, parents, staff.
