This course will focus on expressive and receptive language skills, conversational communication and will include Deaf culture, community, literature, and history. Students are required to attend and participate during class using a comprehensible input model that focuses on understanding first and signing as understanding grows. Students should expect at least 5-10 minutes of daily practice of vocabulary, grammar and fingerspelling, and weekly videos totaling 60-90 minutes in addition to assigned written homework and receptive language videos weekly that is best done in small sections throughout the week. In order to demonstrate ability in signing skills, students will be asked to record videos of themselves signing to submit to the instructor throughout the year for individual progress tracking. Internet access will be needed for the completion of weekly “At Home” assignments.
