Learning Lab is designed to provide students with a regularly scheduled Homework Helps session. For students in grades 4 – 12th, it can be difficult to ‘find the time’ for homework during the week. In Learning Lab, students will all be working on their current school work. Parents will create a priority list of subjects for the student to work on.
The instructor will:
- Encourage students to work though the subjects on their list.
- Help students remain focused on their school work.
- Answer questions and provide assistance as needed.
- Provide feedback to parents regarding the student’s complete/incomplete work, repeating struggles, or additional information regarding the student’s overall performance.
Students will be able to choose their “study habitat”, utilizing Berea’s resources. Small desks, floor mats, or tables can help students focus. The room will be a “quiet zone”, though not a “silent zone”. If students complete all their work before the end of class, they may be given age appropriate worksheets or learning activities to help them understand their personal learning styles and needs.
For students in class from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm, they are required to sign up for a “study hall” from 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm on Wednesday. These thirty minutes will be focused on preparing for Learning Lab. Students may have a snack, some water, or relax after their academic day. The 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm “study hall” is optional for students only attending Learning Lab.
Learning Lab enrollment is not a direct “first come, first served” course. Students enrolled in Thursday classes will be given priority enrollment until June 31, 2024.
Learning Lab is available to students in Level Up, Core Concepts, Junior High, and High School.
