Materials: Shurley English Level 3. Parents may purchase the Homeschool Kit bundle to acquire the Teacher’s manual. It is recommended that parents have the Teacher’s Manual to support their students at home with homework.
Students are required to have: Workbook Level 3 and Level 3 Practice Booklet

Grammar – an essential part of building English skills but often disliked. Shurley English breaks down the structure of language into consistent, formulated techniques. Sentence diagramming, vocabulary builders, and writing are all included in the Shurley program.

Students begin the academic year learning to identify nouns and verbs, then adding more grammar over the course. Sentence Diagramming is simplified through sensible labels and the use of underlining, parenthesis, and slash marks.

In writing, students start with building good sentences, then move to building 5 sentence paragraphs. Eventually, the students will build a 5 paragraph essay. The writing assignments build from the basics and follow a formula. The goal is to provide students with the basic writing skills they need while avoiding the anxiety and stress of writing.

Students will have homework throughout the week, including working with practice sentences, vocabulary, and writing assignments. For Level Up, students will diagram sentences and practice vocabulary by hand. Based on parent direction, they may type or handwrite writing assignments. Class will also include age appropriate quizzes.
