English Lessons Through Literature (ELTL) is a complete language arts program for elementary and middle school students. For our Level Up! Students in 2024/2025, we will be using Level “A, Aspiring”.

Level A, Aspiring, introduces students to a world of poetry, short stories, and beloved characters. In Aspiring, students will learn through selected tales of Beatrix Potter, Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book, Pinnochio, The Orange Fairy Book, The Velveteen Rabbit, The Boxcar Children, and Aesop’s Fables.

The program is well suited for Berea’s format because it is designed for three lessons per week. It is highly recommended that parents purchase the base book, English Lessons through Literature, A, Aspiring. It is not required, but it will make it significantly easier for parents to assist with homework. The workbook will be required, but each family needs to choose their preferred format. The books are identical, except in writing format, which can be in basic italic, cursive italic, manuscript, vertical cursive, or slant cursive. To view the series: See Each of the Available Formats at Rainbow Resource

For 2024/2025, students will have separate practice/instruction on grammar. The grammar of Level A; Aspiring, will be used as a supplement/reinforcement of the Shurley English grammar program.

Syllabus will be available in August, 2024.

Literature is part of Tuesday Level Up, paired with Grammar.
