COVID-19 Information, History: 2019/2020

To help our community understand the way Berea Academy has approached COVID-19, we have provided this history of our COVID-19 related policies.

Berea Academy started online classes on March 18. What an adventure! Our plan was to reevaluate the situation on April 3. As the situation has changed, we are changing with it.

On March 21, St. Louis city and county issued guidelines to “stay at home.” The restrictions are in place for 30 days,  until April 21.  With this information, Berea Academy has adjusted our schedule, as well. At this time, we will plan to continue remote education until April 23. We will reevaluate the situation on April 21.

Remember, we also have Easter Break on our schedule!
New school schedule:
March 24-26, 2020 – Remote Education
March 31-April 2, 2020 – Remote Education
April 7-9, 2020 – NO SCHOOL! Easter Break
April 14-16, 2020 – Remote Education
April 21-24, 2020 – Remote Education
April 21, 2020 – Reevaluate plan

Berea Families,

Hello from Beth Mennemeyer. I’m contacting you because Berea Academy teachers and staff are receiving questions from parents about classes.

We are working diligently to prepare for the possibility of shifting classes to a remote learning platform. Mrs. Musick and I are talking every day about the latest developments around COVID-19. We are also in contact with the leaders of our host location, Southgate Church.

The number one question we are hearing is: How is Berea going to decide to cancel in person classes?

We are carefully monitoring the situation in the St. Louis metropolitan area. If the government makes a large scale decision regarding gatherings/schools, we will follow their guidance. If Southgate Church makes a decision to close their building, we will stand in agreement with them. If the St. Louis metropolitan area begins to develop cases of community transference of COVID-19, we will close in person classes. [Community transference occurs when people become infected but do not have a traceable path to the source of infection.]

This is a constantly shifting situation. We’re asking you to partner with us during this time.

  1. Pray. Ask God for blessing upon His people, healing, wisdom, patience, and compassion. May God reign His gifts upon us until our lives overflow with Him. May we act as beacons in the darkness during this time.
  2. If you have not filled out the Remote Education Form, please do so now. You can Click Here to Go Directly to Form
  3. Check your email daily for information from us. Mrs. Musick works hard to limit Berea’s official emails so you don’t feel spammed by us. However, email is the most reliable way for us to communicate with you at this time.
  4. Berea has set up a private YouTube channel. This channel can be used by the teachers and students to post content related to class. The link for the channel will be made available as needed to our students. Before students use the YouTube channel, speak with them about the importance of keeping the link private in our community. If someone requests access to the channel, please send them to Mrs. Musick, myself, or the appropriate teacher – do not forward the link yourselves.
  5. Berea teachers are training to use the online meeting platform Google Hangouts Meet. To read more about the platform, click here for google support.
  6. If you are ill, please stay home. This has always been our policy, and generally home school families follow the policy. If you do need to miss class, contact your teacher for more information on how to keep moving forward in the curriculum.
  7. When you arrive on campus, stop at the restroom and wash your hands before moving on to your class. This is especially helpful in controlling any contagious disease.
  8. Volunteer to help your teacher clean tables and chairs after class. All classrooms and meeting spaces have been equipped with spray bottles full of soapy water and paper towels.

We will keep in touch with you. However, if you have any questions you can email me at bereaacademystl@gmail.com

Peace and blessing,
Mrs. Mennemeyer
