In addition to these texts, Berea recommends each student have a notebook or folder with paper for additional work or note taking. Math students will also need a basic math kit, which can remain on campus. The kit should include: a 12 inch ruler, a protractor, and a compass.

Syllabus available in August, 2023.

Math Workshop will utilize the Singapore Math program. Singapore Math for elementary ages is designed to keep students engaged, increase proficiency, and begin training students to think about math in different ways. The textbook is a “worktext” with areas for the students to do practice work, as well as additional work if needed. The worktext is in full color and builds on itself. The workbook is black and white, featuring only practice exercises. All four books listed above are necessary for the full year.

Berea has chosen this program because its style and presentation prepares students for the critical thinking needed for higher level math. The Standards edition uses both metric and feet measurement systems, ensuring exposure to the metric system before middle school science classes.

Note:

To ensure success for Math Workshop, every Berea math student will take a placement test by August, 2023, to confirm correct enrollment. Please do not purchase math textbooks until after the placement test has been evaluated. Email bereaacademystl@gmail.com to confirm placement test access and details after class enrollment has been confirmed.
