Math can be a complicated subject for students and parents alike. Berea Academy’s schedule, which brings the students together with the instructor once a week, brings an additional layer to the equation. Enter: Mindset Mathematics!

Mindset Mathematics is a mathematical program focused on engaging the students in three key ways: visualization, play, and investigation. The year is organized around 9 Big Ideas. Students do not need to purchase any textbooks. Copies of the illustrations from the book, worksheets, and activities related to the current big idea will be covered by the copy fee listed above. Everything will be organized into a three ring binder, which is also included.

For 2023/2024, Math Fundamentals will use Level 4. They will investigate:
1. Setting Patterns Inside Numbers
2. Building and Designing Shapes and Angles
3. Making and Naming Number Patterns
4. Units are a Relationship
5. Modeling with Unit Fractions
6. Exploring Fraction Equivalence
7. Illustrating Multiplication and Division
8. Using Operations Flexibly
9. What is a Decimal?

Because math concepts are related to mastery, the class may move more quickly than expected through these 9 Big Ideas. If appropriate the class will begin the next level of Mindset Mathematics.

Though this is a supplemental program, it is quite thorough. To ensure students’ mastery and retention, additional worksheets and activities will be assigned as homework.
