A Program for Academics and Enrichment
Level Up! is designed for ‘next steps.’ Advanced 3rd grade and 4th grade students are ready to make the shift to new academic goals. Expectations, understanding, and increased personal responsibility are great hallmarks of this age group. Level Up! gives students the opportunity to explore these growing skills in a supporting, coaching environment.
Classes start at 10:00 am. The morning session finishes at 11:30 am, giving the students a full hour for lunch and recess before returning to class at 12:30 for the afternoon session. The afternoon session finishes at 2:00 pm. A small fee of $25 per day provides adult oversight during recess/lunch. Full day enrollment is required. Families may choose one, two, or three days.
Classes are offered across three days. Each day will feature two specific subjects. On Tuesday, students study Grammar and Language Arts. Wednesday features math and a hands-on art class, designing and building models. Thursday focuses on Science paired with The Show Me State: Missouri!
Students may also enroll in After Class Special Sessions. On Wednesday, students will be exploring the Art of the Trading Card and Basic Board Games. On Thursday, students will be engaged in physical education. For students in class from 10 am – 2pm and in enrolling in the After Class Special Session, a study hall period from 2 pm – 2:30 pm is required. Study hall is discounted to $5 for these students.
Level Up students may participate in the new “after session” programming from 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm. On Wednesday, Ms. Jess is digging into trading cards and board games! On Thursday, students and Ms. Jess get moving in a new P.E. class. Both “after session” classes include all grades, k – 12th.
Please note that several of the classes have no textbook required, or only a workbook needed. In some cases, Berea Academy has listed a Copy Fee, with no textbook selected. The Copy Fee will provide quality color copies of reference materials, worksheets, home activities, and other paper based work for the class, as well as a 3 ring binder to contain the papers.
Art and Science can get very messy! In Fall of 2024, Berea will organize a “sponsor an apron” campaign to provide our “messy” classes with clothing protection. But watch out for smatters of paint across the cheek, or a light dusting of flour in the hair!
Our Instructors
Level Up! is served by some of our most experienced instructors. Ms. Jess, Ms. Maggie, and Ms. Nikki are joined by new instructors Ms. Beth, Ms. Kyra, and Ms. Hannah to offer a complete schedule.
Jessica Turcios joined Berea as a staff member for the 2019/2020 school year. In 2020/2021, Ms. Jess started her journey as an instructor. Ms. Jess leads Literature, Art, and Social Studies classes for our younger Wonder and Explore students. Ms. Jess is also leading a new course in the art of trading cards (and board games) and P.E. Ms. Jess’ enthusiasm reigns in her classroom, inviting students to explore the subject at hand.
Ms. Maggie
Maggie Sanazaro has been with Berea since our founding. Ms. Maggie has an education degree with a passion for elementary education and experience teaching math in a classroom setting. She brings this expertise into the classroom to create skill building activities for different levels of understanding and growth. Ms. Maggie leads our Wonder and Explore and Level Up Math programs. Level Up! students will benefit from her experience, patience, and engaging class periods
Ms. Nikki
Nikki Davis is a woman of many talents – starting with her excitement to start with Berea in the middle of the school year 2021/2022. Ms. Nikki is an artist, instructing in a variety of art mediums and styles while creating a creative space for relaxation, enjoyment, and skill building. Ms. Nikki loves to work with music floating through the air in the classroom, giving students individual attention as they work through the lesson.
Beth Mennemeyer has been part of Berea since its founding in 2017. Over the years, Beth has taught a wide variety of classes in different subjects and age groups. Beth knows that grammar, while not necessarily a popular subject, is a core building block for writing, literature, and more. Beth has taught grammar at Berea several times, in addition to using it in her home education plan.
Kyra Harriss is new with Berea for 2024/2025! She is an experienced educator with a focus in Elementary Education. Ms. Kyra’s work has included teaching First Grade, English, and writing. Ms. Krya has also worked in blended age groups, honing her ability to lead students in a cohesive classroom experience while challenging the students at their individual skill level.
Hannah Dierzbicki is a new instructor with Berea for 2024/2025, but she has been experiencing the Berea community for several years through her nephews. Ms. Hannah is an educator, most recently working at St. Margaret of Scotland. Ms. Hannah stepped back from full time teaching as her personal work as a photographer expanded. She is excited to join Berea and bring her teacher’s heart to our classrooms.
